Atomic Radio v2.3

Download v2.3

Changelog from v2.2
– Added new skit Guns in Detroit starring Noi Sek and Audrey Reyel
– Grouped skits together for additional randomization on each playthrough
– Restored MHDT and MLEV fields that were removed by an earlier version of FO4edit

It seems an older version of xEdit removed MHDT and MLEV data from Fallout.esm, messing with vertibird flight patterns if the mod was last in your load order. Zilav was quick with the fix though, I’m just late to the news. Hat tip to Demodus for the info.

Same applies to TFTC, but that will be updated tomorrow as I’m trying to squeeze in one other quest and random encounter.

Atomic Radio v1.00

– v1.01 – Added radio bumpers

Atomic Radio v1.01

All right, version 1.00 1.01 Atomic Radio is now available for downloading. I would’ve released it earlier, but I was using the old naming convention for archives and I couldn’t figure out what the hell I was doing wrong. Apparently, for Fallout 4 you have to name your file (pluginname – main.ba2) for it to work, and keep a separate ba2 for textures.

Atomic Radio – PSAs: Leisure Time

Here’s another promotional bit for Atomic Radio. I made some changes to the PSA beyond the typical jokes that make the video not a 100% match, in particular turning the piano player into a man, but it still more or less works. Not really relevant for the radio mod though, since these videos obviously can’t be shown on the Pip-Boy.

Now, there is a TV, but videos that match the original PSA are more the exception than the rule, and I also don’t really like the intersection of real life people in a video game world. So it’s more of a blog thing, but still fun and easy to make.

Atomic Radio – Commercials: Supradent

Not sure how well this works, but I was bored and wanted to try using some of the commercial footage that Atomic Radio parodies. This is an old Colgate commercial which I altered to a Fallout, lore friendly advertisement for Supradent toothpaste(You may have seen billboards for it up and around the Commonwealth). The announcer is voiced by Noi Sek.

In making this, I’ve listened to this stupid jingle more times than the surgeon general considers safe, so pardon me while I go to the nearest wall and bang my head into it repeatedly.

Atomic Radio – FO4Edit Version

DOWNLOAD Atomic_Radio (FO4Edit Version 0.03)

  • v0.02 – Fixed a file path mistake (Thanks to Casum)
  • v0.03 It seems the radio craps out after 30 tracks and starts over. Rearranged track order so skipped tracks now play correctly. Instead the blank, replaceable files in the FM folder will be skipped (31-40) until there’s an update/fix.

Here’s a standalone version of Atomic Radio made using junior99Au’s Personal Radio and Zilav’s Sanctuary Radio and FO4edit. Since it was done without the GECK, this is still a limited version of the eventual mod. While the amount of content will give the impression it’s random, there’s no randomizing script in place and no conditions utilized to account for time. Moreover, when the actual mod is released the late night programs will only play at night, and cartoons and kids programs will only play in the morning. Right now there’s no conditions.

The mod has 2 folders, AM and FM. The FM is designed to work like Personal Radio, you can replace the 10 tracks with whatever song you want, WAV or XWM format. Eventually all the music will be done in this fashion to avoid the sting of the copyright bees, but for now I’ve put in some music in the AM folder as well to balance out the talk bits.

The cast of actors is long and would take up multiple pages, but I would be remiss not to mention their tireless efforts, without whom the project would not exist, so here is the current credits hidden with spoiler tags. It will continue to be updated as sketches are added.

I’m going to release something on Nexus and eventually, but I just need to replace all the songs with replaceable vanilla tracks to make it lawyer safe. Right now the format doesn’t allow for that since I’m too lazy to make the 150 separate tracks required (I just used junior99au’s 40 track module), since I’d have to do the whole thing over again when the GECK comes out. So that will have to wait for the modding kit. This release is more to lay claim to a specific radio frequency. If any modders are planning on making a radio station, the one I’m using is 99.014809, so hopefully no one else is using that lest we have to fight for it in a joust. From what I’ve heard, using the same frequency will bork both stations.

You can find installation instructions for Fallout 4 mods in a lot of places. Since new patches from Bethesda can change things, I won’t put anything here, just google it and you should be good.

Atomic Radio – Blast Radius

Here’s a commercial for one of the many new products introduced in Fallout 4, Blast Radius. It’s a parody of an old Roger Maris commercial where he looks into the camera with dead eyes and reads a cue card about his exciting new board game.

You can download a replacer version of the mod here, I don’t think I’m going to put it up on Nexus until the kit comes out, but we’ll see. I’m not entirely sure why the vanilla radio station randomizes tracks so poorly, but there might be a method to what music they want to play when and where. I know time conditions didn’t really work all that well for Fallout 3, but I do want the horror shows and late night talk segments to play later in the day.

Fallout 4 Mod – Classical Radio Replacer

So after seeing all the replacer mods out on Nexus, I decided to try and take over one of the vanilla stations just to see if I could. This replaces the Classical Radio station. Obviously it’s not ideal for that reason alone, but there’s a few other limitations in place that may not be completely obvious.

For one, the limited tracks available made it so I had to combine a lot of the sketches and skits. In other words, they’re a lot less random than what you’d find in the Fallout 3 version of Atomic Radio (that version also has music). Lastly, I’m still learning all the new Pre-War companies that have been introduced in this game, so most of the commercials are for previously known corporations.

EDIT: Download a standalone version here.

To install, you need to edit the Fallout4.ini file in the following folder:

DocumentsMy GamesFallout4

Then replace the line

Technically you only need Sound, but I noticed other mods are listing all the folders in case you are using texture replacers too. Then simply merge the Data folder in the zip file with the one in your Fallout 4 directory.

To uninstall, just delete the files.

I should note that I have not played the game to the end, so I have no idea if the Classical Radio channel – being an Institute owned station – plays any role in the story. The replacer will also play in settings where classical music is ideal for the mood, like in posh areas, so keep that in mind as well. Shit’s mostly for giggles and feedback.

Fallout 3: Atomic Radio – PSA on Marriage

Here’s a sample from an upcoming PSA for the Atomic Radio mod, whose cast grows larger by the day. This one was done by Rosalyn ‘blarghbleh’ Meney, but other newcomers include Trevor “Teky” Hutchins, Roksys, Lynkstar, Antonio Vesagas, Fairfieldfencer, Gabi King, Victoria Bowes, Goose Boose, Dark Aeolus, Mippa, and Mindwinder. The next update should breach the 3 hour mark as well.

If you’re interested in helping out, you can check the casting call page on this website, or find the roles on CCC here and here.

Fallout 3 Mods – Atomic Radio: Drug PSA

Here’s another radio spot to show the different types of content that the channel will have. In addition to movie trailers, comedy skits, game shows, and the like, PSAs like this are a good way to add variety without resorting to musical filler. Here’s David Boffa teaching kids the dangers of marijuana cigarettes.

Fallout 3 Mods: Atomic Radio – Grognak in New York

I’m not sure how much of these I should share, but this one is just too good not to. Voiced by James McLauchlan, who even ad-libbed an extra line that fit in perfectly. The impersonations and delivery are just spot on. I couldn’t be happier with this sketch.
